7 Days Migration Safari

Overview

The Great Migration is one of nature’s most spectacular events — the largest movement of animals on the planet. With up to 1,000 animals per square kilometer, the vast columns of wildebeest can even be seen from space. Over 1.2 million wildebeest, 300,000 zebras, and thousands of topi and gazelles follow an ancient cycle through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in search of fresh grass and water. This incredible journey covers 800-1,000 km, with hungry predators like lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and crocodiles ensuring that only the strongest survive. Known as “the greatest show on Earth,” the migration is a spectacle of survival and raw nature.

This safari takes you through Tanzania’s most famous parks, from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater, showcasing the wildlife and landscapes that make the region a must-visit destination for nature lovers.

Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (North)
Driving Time to the Park: 3 hours
Time in the Park: 6-8 hours
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation

After breakfast, depart at 7:00 am and head to Serengeti North, arriving at 10:00 am for a game drive in the Northern Mara area. This region is famous for the annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras. From July to October, witness the thrilling river crossings, where the herds plunge through crocodile-infested waters. The wildebeest also give birth to 8,000 calves daily during this time, adding to the excitement of the migration.

Day 3 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)

Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (North)
Time in the Park: Full day
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation

Today, you’ll enjoy a full-day game drive in the Kogatende area of Serengeti North. This area is a prime location for observing the Great Migration, with the herds frequently crossing the Mara River between August and October. The herds follow the rains, so there is no distinct pattern, but you can expect to see plenty of action as the wildebeest make their way through the riverbanks and the surrounding plains. River crossings are a highlight, though they may occur at varying times.

Day 4 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)

Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (North)
Time in the Park: Full day
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation

Another full day of game viewing in Serengeti North allows you to continue observing the migrating herds. The Mara River is a key feature here, with excellent opportunities to witness dramatic crossings. The stunning landscapes, featuring kopjes, woodland, and open plains, create a picturesque backdrop as the herds travel across the region. Be ready to see the migration in action—sometimes crossing back and forth over the river over the course of a few days.

Day 5 – Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)

Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)
Time in the Park: Full day

After breakfast, we drive to Serengeti Central, known as Central Seronera, Tanzania’s oldest and most famous national park. Serengeti’s central region is home to a variety of wildlife, including large herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, and antelopes. Though it’s quieter during the non-migration months, game viewing is excellent year-round. Explore the plains and discover a diverse range of animals as you embark on your full-day game drive.

Serengeti is also renowned for its birdlife, with over 500 species recorded, ranging from ostriches to black eagles soaring over the Lobo Hills. It’s an ideal day for wildlife photography and exploration.

Day 7 – Ngorongoro Crater Tour

Main Destination: Ngorongoro Crater
Driving Time to the Park: 45 minutes
Time in the Park: 7 hours
