7 Days Migration Safari
Overview
The Great Migration is one of nature’s most spectacular events — the largest movement of animals on the planet. With up to 1,000 animals per square kilometer, the vast columns of wildebeest can even be seen from space. Over 1.2 million wildebeest, 300,000 zebras, and thousands of topi and gazelles follow an ancient cycle through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in search of fresh grass and water. This incredible journey covers 800-1,000 km, with hungry predators like lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and crocodiles ensuring that only the strongest survive. Known as “the greatest show on Earth,” the migration is a spectacle of survival and raw nature.
This safari takes you through Tanzania’s most famous parks, from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater, showcasing the wildlife and landscapes that make the region a must-visit destination for nature lovers.
Detailed Itinerary
Arrival – Kilimanjaro Airport
Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport and be transferred to your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha, two vibrant cities in northern Tanzania. After checking in, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax and prepare for the exciting journey ahead.
Day 1 – Tarangire National Park
Main Destination: Tarangire National Park
Driving Time to the Park: 3-4 hours
Time in the Park: 7 hours
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation
Start your adventure early with a 6:00 am departure from your hotel. Head toward Tarangire National Park, passing through Arusha city (about 3-4 hours’ drive). Known for its huge elephant herds and iconic baobab trees, Tarangire offers incredible wildlife experiences. Spot giraffes, antelope, lions, cheetahs, and more during your 7-hour game drive. In the evening, you’ll head to your lodge or campsite for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 – Serengeti National Park (North)
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (North)
Driving Time to the Park: 3 hours
Time in the Park: 6-8 hours
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation
After breakfast, depart at 7:00 am and head to Serengeti North, arriving at 10:00 am for a game drive in the Northern Mara area. This region is famous for the annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras. From July to October, witness the thrilling river crossings, where the herds plunge through crocodile-infested waters. The wildebeest also give birth to 8,000 calves daily during this time, adding to the excitement of the migration.
Day 3 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (North)
Time in the Park: Full day
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation
Today, you’ll enjoy a full-day game drive in the Kogatende area of Serengeti North. This area is a prime location for observing the Great Migration, with the herds frequently crossing the Mara River between August and October. The herds follow the rains, so there is no distinct pattern, but you can expect to see plenty of action as the wildebeest make their way through the riverbanks and the surrounding plains. River crossings are a highlight, though they may occur at varying times.
Day 4 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (North)
Time in the Park: Full day
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation
Another full day of game viewing in Serengeti North allows you to continue observing the migrating herds. The Mara River is a key feature here, with excellent opportunities to witness dramatic crossings. The stunning landscapes, featuring kopjes, woodland, and open plains, create a picturesque backdrop as the herds travel across the region. Be ready to see the migration in action—sometimes crossing back and forth over the river over the course of a few days.
Day 5 – Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)
Time in the Park: Full day
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation
After breakfast, we drive to Serengeti Central, known as Central Seronera, Tanzania’s oldest and most famous national park. Serengeti’s central region is home to a variety of wildlife, including large herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, and antelopes. Though it’s quieter during the non-migration months, game viewing is excellent year-round. Explore the plains and discover a diverse range of animals as you embark on your full-day game drive.
Day 6 – Serengeti Central (Central Seronera)
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)
Time in the Park: Full day
Accommodation: Camping, Mid-range, or Luxury lodge
Meals: Full board accommodation
After breakfast, head out for another full-day game drive in Central Serengeti. This area is teeming with life, from the Big Five to smaller creatures like the rock hyrax and colorful agama lizards. Serengeti is also renowned for its birdlife, with over 500 species recorded, ranging from ostriches to black eagles soaring over the Lobo Hills. It’s an ideal day for wildlife photography and exploration.
Day 7 – Ngorongoro Crater Tour
Main Destination: Ngorongoro Crater
Driving Time to the Park: 45 minutes
Time in the Park: 7 hours
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
After an early breakfast, we head to the Ngorongoro Crater, an iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a highland region with a stunning volcanic caldera at its heart. Inside the crater, you’ll find an impressive diversity of wildlife, including rhinos, elephants, lions, flamingos, and hyenas. This area offers one of the most dramatic settings for game viewing in the world. After a day of exploring the crater, we’ll begin our journey back to Moshi or Arusha for the night or proceed to the airport for your departure.

Hiking Kilimanjaro was a bucket list trip and I was in good hands with chance venture tours. It was 100% super amazing Hiking Kilimanjaro was a bucket list day trip and I was in good hands with chance venture tours. It was 100% the right choice. I’m a south Africa, traveled with a friends. We had solo hikers, couples, and 2 kids, friends in our group of 4.The group camaraderie was priceless. Chance venture tours are true professionals. I felt safe and supported the entire time, plus very well fed with tasty food and I can be a food snob sometimes too. They pick you up from airport, select a great hotel, help with any local excursions, check your gear- have gear you can rent if needed, daily medical checks on the mountain, morning wake ups w coffee or tea, snacks and hot tea during hikes. Kindly reccomended you chance venture tours for the nextadventure of your life time you wont regret to choose them!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A dream came true In September we climbed Kilimanjaro on the 7-day Lemosho route with Chance Venture Tours and we had an unforgettable time! Our guide Goodchance supported us at all times, motivated us with different songs and always took care of our health and well-being. He taught us a lot about the mountain, the landscape and the vegetation. We can now also speak a few words in Swahili. :-) We had a lot of laughs and unforgettable moments with the whole team, for which we are very grateful. The food was always fresh and lovingly prepared. It always tasted delicious. Many thanks to our chef Mokozi! Climbing Uhuru Peak was a dream come true. We reached the summit just in time for sunrise and were able to experience a wonderful morning atmosphere. A big thank you to our porters, Emmanuel, Calvin, Daniel, Gift, Elinami, Jemsi and Anolrd, who worked incredibly hard to support us. We will always remember this amazing week with these lovely people and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for everything. Keep up your positive attitude to life! Hakuna Matata! We can absolutely recommend this company for your Kilimanjaro adventure!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()
